Did you know you can help the health and condition of your dog’s bladder through diet?

Our pets health is always the main concern, always be aware to any change of behavior and book an appointment with your vet ASAP if there is anything wrong with your pet.

One of the most common pet complaints is problems with the bladder and due to the amount of potential bladder problems it is always wise to keep an eye out for the signs of bladder problems:

  • Blood in the urine
  • Pain or discomfort when urinating
  • Stones or crystals in the urine
  • Cats going in and out of the litter tray, but not urinating – This can be a sign of a serious issue, so take your cat straight to the vets

If your pet is diagnosed with a bladder condition your vet may prescribe some prescription medicine or even a prescription diet food.

There is a prescription diet food range from Hills which vets usually recommend for the conditions involving the bladder.

Hills Canine C/D is a veterinary diet which is used in the treatment and management of dogs with Bladder Problems. Hills Prescription C/D reduces the recurrence of struvite and calcium phosphate crystals and stones in the bladder. Hills C/D also contains high levels of antioxidants to help neutralise free radicals which can damage cells. This food is available in dry and wet forms.

In cats, Hills Feline C/D is a veterinary diet used to manage a number of conditions relating to the urinary tract in cats. The food Contains nutrition proved to reduce urinary stones recurrence, is low in salt and high in antioxidants to maintain kidney health and the special formulation works to prevent stones forming in the urinary tract. Like with the canine version, this food comes in both a dry and wet form.

As well as Hills, Royal Canin also provide a range of foods that are specifically designed to help treat urinary conditions.

Royal Canin Urinary dog food is specially formulated to increase urine volume and increase the acidity of the urine produced. This helps to dissolve stones that are already present and to reduce reoccurrence of stones once the condition is under control. Royal Canin Urinary is a veterinary diet tailored for use in several clinical conditions relating to Lower Urinary Tract Disease.

This food is available in dry and wet forms as well as Small Dog and Moderate Calorie.

Royal Canin Urinary S/O cat food diet helps to dissolve mineral stones which can be found in the bladder and kidneys of cats. Many cat foods contain high levels of calcium and magnesium which can cause the build up of bladder stones. The diet is specially formulated to increase urine volume and increase the acidity of the urine produced which helps to dissolve stones that are already present and to reduce reoccurrence of stones.

This food is also available in a High Dilution form which has urine acidifying properties and its low level of magnesium make it suitable for dissolving struvite stones and reducing their recurrence.

These diets are just examples of what your vet may recommend, it is important to always consult with your vet when putting your pet on to any prescription diet food.
